SNCB has a sustainable purchasing policy that effectively combines environmental, economic and social aspects.


SNCB is a member of the Railsponsible initiative, which brings together various players in the rail sector at European level:

  • Operators (SNCB, SNCF, NS and others)
  • Manufacturers of rolling stock (Bombardier, Alstom and others)
  • Spare parts suppliers (Faiveley, Knorr-Bremse and others)

Railsponsible Supplier Award 2021

SNCB is proud to announce, together with the other members of Railsponsible, the “Railsponsible Supplier Award 2021”.

We would like to invite our suppliers of the rail industry to participate to the selection for the fourth edition of this prestigious award. The focus of this year will be on Climate Change and Social Responsibility.

The “Railsponsible Supplier Award” will be presented at the Railway Forum in Berlin, on 7th September 2021.

Members of this initiative share the belief that sustainable purchasing creates value for companies as well as for society as a whole. Their vision is that of a rail industry in which all suppliers implement best practices – ethically, socially, environmentally and economically.

Ecovadis: evaluating our supplies

In order to gain insight into its suppliers' CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) processes, SNCB has chosen EcoVadis as its evaluation partner.

In 2019, SNCB had EcoVadis scores for around twenty of its suppliers.

What's more, SNCB has also undergone an EcoVadis assessment.

Supplier code of conduct

SNCB has a code of conduct for its suppliers, which sets the basis for sound, win-win cooperation between the two parties. Any supplier applying for an SNCB contract must comply with the terms and conditions set out in this document.
