Activity Report 2024: SNCB-NMBS@YourService
In 2024, we made rail travel even more comfortable, sustainable and efficient. Our goal? To attract 30% more passengers by 2032. We will do this by offering more punctuality and an even more customer-centric service. In 2024, 245 million passengers chose to travel by train, almost half a million more than in 2023. This growing confidence shows that more and more people see the train as the ideal mode of transport.
More punctual trains and better travel information
The punctuality of our trains continues to be a top priority. Last year, punctuality rose to 89.7% (compared to 87.5% in 2023) thanks to targeted measures. And since last year, the SNCB/NMBS app has provided real-time travel information and information about connections with De Lijn, STIB and TEC.
New connections, more options
In 2024, we expanded our train services with more suburban and national connections. New international connections were introduced.
Modern and safe trains
More comfort and safety on the rails: we introduced 160 new M7 carriages and overhauled our double-decker M6 trains. 95% of our trains are now equipped with the ETCS safety system.
More accessible and intermodal stations
2024, 13 stations became barrier-free and 116 stations fulfil the criteria for accessibility. In addition, parking facilities for bicycles and cars were improved at several stations. In total, SNCB/NMBS now offers 128,000 bicycle parking spaces and 75,500 car parking spaces.
Sustainability as a priority
The train is the most sustainable mode of transport, but at SNCB/NMBS, sustainability goes much further. We are committed to environmentally friendly management, focussing on energy and water savings and more efficient waste management. This commitment is enshrined in our public service contract with the Belgian state.
