Visual passenger counts are performed in October of each year at the various NMBS/SNCB stations. These counts are made over a short period of time, so that error margins are inevitable and, in some cases, significant. The purpose of this project is to develop new methods (in particular using new technologies) to ensure more reliable counts and lower error margins.

We can improve our perception of the number of passengers per station or region, and therefore improve passenger experiences in terms of service design (transport plans) and customer information (occupancy of trains and stations).
