To assist you in how to read the various punctuality reports, here are a few concepts and definitions relating to punctuality and how to calculate it.

The punctuality of domestic traffic is measured in the terminus station.
If the train crosses the Brussels North-Midi Junction, a measurement is also taken at the first station reached after the North-Midi Junction along its journey.
Example: the punctuality of a train from Ostend bound for Eupen is measured at Brussels-Midi and at Eupen.

Punctuality figure, which does not take into account delays caused by external sources (vandalism, violence, cable theft, etc.) nor delays causes by large-scale investment work (such as the RER). These delays, which are neither attributable to Infrabel or to the rail companies, are "cancelled out".

All trains that record a delay of less than 6 minutes at a measuring point are deemed to be punctual.

As infrastructure manager for the Belgian rail network, Infrabel is responsible for managing rail traffic in real time. Consequently, Infrabel also sees to timing the passage of trains at certain very precise measuring points.

The punctuality rate is the ratio as a percentage between the number of measurements in which the train has been measured as being on time and the total number of measurements taken.

This punctuality rate can be calculated:

  • Per day, per week, per month or per year
  • For all trains, a series of trains, a given line or a very specific station

The punctuality that we calculate is the punctuality of passenger trains managed by SNCB as the operator within the framework of the management agreement entered into with the State.
