Come and experience this "festive ritual" which has been recognised by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.

During the carnival period, the town of Binche is transformed into a vast stage celebrating the traditions of carnival. Shrove Tuesday, the Day of the Gilles, is the culmination of the three-day festivities. These traditional costumed figures, dressed for the occasion in masks, little bells, clogs and their famous ostrich-feather headdresses, lead the crowd as they dance to the sound of the drums.

  • From Sunday, March 3 to Tuesday, March 5, 2019 inclusive
  • Return train journey on the same day. The homeward journey is also allowed until the day after the outward journey.
On Tuesday 5th March, an access control will be implemented at Binche station. Because E-train tickets are issued by name, you will also have to present your identity card as well as your E-train ticket.
Alert
Attention: changes to the train service due to works on the tracks

Saturday 02 and Sunday 03/03/2019:

In the weekend of 2 and 3 March there will be no trains between La Louvière-Centre and La Louvière-Sud due to works carried out by Infrabel.
If you’re coming from Brussels, Tournai or Liers (Liège), you can take a shuttle bus in LA LOUVIÈRE-CENTRE to LA LOUVIÈRE-SUD and there change to a shuttle train to BINCHE. This should also be taken into account for the homeward journey.
The S-trains (S62) Charleroi-Sud - La Louvière-Centre will ride to La Louvière-Sud where you can change to the shuttle train to BINCHE and vice versa.

Tuesday 05/03/2019 (Shrove Tuesday):
  • The trains to Binche will run with a modified timetable due to works carried out by Infrabel. The composition of a number of trains will be increased.
  • For the homeward journey from Binche station, the connections to Charleroi - Namur - Liège and to Mons - Tournai should be taken at La Louvière-Sud station (not La Louvière-Centre).
  • Attention: on Tuesday the 5th of March, the last train (destination Turnhout via Brussels) will leave from Binche station at 9.21 p.m.

Soon you’ll be able to plan your journey on the above-mentioned days via the route planner on this page and in the SNCB app. The route planner will then be adapted, taking into account the planned works on the tracks.
