Discovery: A historic train through Belgium

As part of its 100th anniversary celebrations, SNCB is showcasing its railway heritage through a unique travelling exhibition featuring a historic train.

Nearly 300 metres long, this train consists of iconic locomotives and carriages from different eras, ranging from the 1930s to today’s rolling stock. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the evolution of Belgian railways and get a closer look at vehicles that have left their mark on railway history. Several carriages will also be open to visitors.

Behind the scenes of an extraordinary project

Preparing such a train required the coordination of numerous teams and areas of expertise. Over several months, the historic rolling stock was carefully restored and prepared. Teams also carried out technical inspections and brake tests, prepared the documents required for operation, mobilised specialised drivers, reserved train paths and planned the various shunting movements.

The vehicles that make up the train also had to be transported from several locations before being assembled into a single train formation. At the same time, teams prepared visitor reception arrangements at each station, including crowd management, signage, safety measures, support staff and information about the locomotives and carriages on display.

This collective project brought together expertise in heritage preservation, engineering, train operations, station management, safety and communication.

Come and discover the historic train

The train will be on display to the public:<:/p>

• 29 and 30 August at Schaerbeek station;
• 12 and 13 September at Liège-Guillemins station;
• 10 and 11 October at Antwerp Central station.

At each stop, visitors are welcome free of charge from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with no reservation required.
