Model trains take centre stage at Train World
As part of its centenary celebrations, SNCB-NMBS is highlighting every aspect of the passion for railways. From 18 to 30 August 2026, Train World will host a major model train exhibition, inviting visitors to discover Belgium’s railway heritage through the eyes and craftsmanship of passionate railway modellers.
Organised in collaboration with Media & Rail – Train Miniature Magazine, the exhibition will bring together dozens of model railway layouts created by clubs and modellers from across Belgium.
Where the past and present of rail meet
The exhibition is an integral part of SNCB-NMBS’s centenary programme, which celebrates the history and heritage of Belgium’s railways, as well as the people who have shaped them since 1926. Combining passion with the sharing of knowledge, it is a reminder that this history can be explored both at full scale and in miniature.
A journey through railway heritage
Locomotives, historic stations, bridges, signals and landscapes come to life in a world where technical precision, creativity and patience go hand in hand. Visitors will be able to discover reproductions of the stations of Hasselt, Ostend, Houyet and Sourbrodt, as well as the famous Royal Halt of Ardenne.
These models reflect enthusiasts’ deep attachment to railway history and help preserve the memory of infrastructure that has left its mark on mobility in Belgium.
An experience for visitors of all ages
At weekends, trains will run on the various layouts on display, offering visitors a lively and immersive experience. Model railway enthusiasts, train lovers and families looking for an original activity will be able to discover the world of railways from a different perspective.
The centenary heritage train in Schaerbeek
On 29 and 30 August, visitors will be able to extend their experience with the arrival of the travelling centenary heritage train at Schaerbeek station. Made up of iconic rolling stock from different eras, this exceptional train, almost 300 metres long, will provide a tangible illustration of how Belgian railways have evolved over the decades.
