All you need to know about travelling with a Happy Trip ticket

You will find the list of all hotels offering the option of travelling with a great value Happy Trip ticket on the Westtoer website.
Buy your Happy Trip ticket from this page. Simply click on the purchase button displayed top right. The only thing you then need, is the SNCB order code, which you will find in the mail from your hotel. Each passenger will need 1 Happy Trip ticket and therefore 1 order code. The code always starts with a zero, the capital letter i and the letters HT. Each code can only be used once. You can print your Happy Trip ticket or save the PDF on your smartphone.
At the earliest 1 month before your first night away, you will receive an e-mail from your hotel containing one SNCB order code per hotel guest. If you book your hotel less than a month before your first night away, the e-mail with the codes will follow shortly after the booking confirmation. If your code has not arrived or is late, get in touch with your hotel. Each order code can only be used once. The code always starts with a zero, the capital letter i and the letters HT.

Children up to the age of 12 travel free by train, if accompanied by a passenger with a valid ticket over the age of 12. As from the age of 12, they can travel with a Happy Trip ticket.

Get in touch with your hotel if you have any doubts about the nearest station.
Your Happy Trip ticket is valid for 1 return trip between your departure and end stations on your chosen dates. These details are mentioned on your ticket. You are free to select the train connection that suits you best on these dates and for this route.
No, unfortunately not. The Happy Trip ticket is a discounted ticket and therefore only exists as 2nd class. If you would still prefer more comfort during your journey, please select an upgrade for some or all of your journey. This supplement can be purchased via this website and in the stations at the ticket counters and from ticket machines.
No. Your Happy Trip ticket applies only to your return train journey. If you still need to take a bus or tram from De Lijn to reach your destination, you will need to buy a separate ticket.
Yes. The Happy Trip ticket is a discount ticket and therefore does not include the Diabolo fee. If you are departing from Brussels Airport – Zaventem station, you will still need a separate Diabolo fee ticket. This stand-alone surcharge can be purchased via this website, in stations at the ticket counters and from ticket machines, and in the SNCB app.
Yes, you can combine a Happy Trip ticket with a ticket for travel on a foreign railway network that takes you up to the Belgian border. The Happy Trip ticket is valid from there to your final station. When buying your Happy Trip ticket, enter one of the following first Belgian stations as your departure station:
  • from The Netherlands: Essen (via Roosendaal), Noorderkempen (via Breda) or Visé (via Maastricht-Eijsden)
  • from Germany: Hergenrath
  • from the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg: Arlon, Athus or Gouvy
  • from France: Mouscron, Froyennes, Quiévrain, Quévy or Erquelinnes
SNCB E-train tickets are always in your name, so they cannot be passed on or sold.
They cannot be exchanged, cancelled or refunded.
