The Royal Greenhouses of Laeken: an absolute gem of Belgian heritage
The Royal Greenhouses of Laeken are an absolute gem of Belgian heritage, beautifully located in the heart of the Royal Domain of Laeken in Brussels. They were designed by the Belgian architect Alphonse Balat, mentor of Victor Horta.
The Royal Greenhouses in Laeken were constructed between 1874 and 1905. They were very special from the outset – not only because of their sheer size and their modern glass and metal architecture, but also because of the unique collection of plants that they housed. They remain an extraordinary monument in the 21st century too – grandiose yet refined, exotic yet functional, exuberant yet harmonious.
Every spring, the Royal Greenhouses of Laeken exceptionally open their doors to the public for three weeks, this year from 17 April to 10 May. Tickets are available online from 20 March at 1PM from www.koninklijke-serres-royales.be.
