To mark its 100th anniversary, SNCB-NMBS launched the “Art School Contest”, a nationwide competition for students from art schools across Belgium. Around fifteen schools took part in the initiative, supporting their students in developing work based on the theme: “SNCB-NMBS. 100 years. The journey continues.”

Second Prize (joint award):Whatever the medium chosen, the works were required to pay tribute to the past, reflect the present, or look ahead to the future of rail travel. They were also expected to capture and convey the emotions associated with travelling by train.

From nearly 180 submissions, a jury of experts selected 18 winning works across three categories: graphic works, videos and murals. Within each category, a First Prize and a Second Prize were awarded.

The award ceremony took place on Monday 20 April 2026 at Train World in Brussels, in the presence of many participating students and their teachers.

The winning works will be presented via SNCB-NMBS digital channels (including screens in stations and on board trains, as well as social media). The works in the mural category will also be created on walls in or near railway stations.

SNCB-NMBS is pleased to present these new perspectives on the world of rail and the inspiration it provides for travel.
