Following his presentation at the Belgian pavilion of the Venice Biennale 2022, Alÿs presents at WIELS a new version of The Nature of the Game, an exhibition comprising a selection of films, almost all new productions, and a series of paintings.
Alÿs' work brings together scenes of children playing around the world. His films record both cultural traditions and the spontaneous, unrestrained actions of children, in the street as well as in conflict zones and the turbulence of modern life.
As social interactions increasingly take place online in a virtual world, Alÿs captures this moment of profound transition that our society is undergoing and gathers a memory of children's games before they disappear.
