Temporary exhibition: "From Beijing to Hankou: a Belgian adventure in China"

From 7 May to 10 October 2021, travel from Train World to Beijing and discover an incredible Belgian adventure in China.

This exhibition will take you through the little-known but incredible story of how the Belgians built the Peking-Hankou line, the largest railway line in China, at the beginning of the 20th century, linking the north and south of the country.

For seven years, several tens of thousands of workers worked on this pharaonic site. This extraordinary adventure is the result of collaboration between engineers, technicians, workers, but also Western and Chinese diplomats and financiers. At the head of this colossal project was Jean Jadot, a young Belgian engineer who was 37 years old at the time.

In addition to this historical adventure, the exhibition also presents the impressive development of railways in China today, through its high-speed network.

Original works related to the construction of the Beijing - Hankou line by artists Li Kunwu (China) and François Schuiten (Belgium) will bring a contemporary artistic dimension to this exhibition. Other works by Li Kunwu, inspired by the Chinese railway world, will also enrich this exhibition.

During your visit, the main protagonists of the project will tell you fascinating stories through talking mannequins. Their stories will transport you back to that time and make you relive this incredible epic.
